LTO8, LTO Ultrium 8 RW Data Cartridges

The LTO8 Ultrium RW data cartridges are rewriteable (RW) and are the most comonly used form of LTO ultrium 8 tapes as they are written over when the data they hold expires. These LTO-8 RW tape cartridges are generally cheaper than the alternative which is the Write Once Read Many or WORM LTO 8 data cartridges. WORM LTO8 tape cartridges are mainly used for data that requires a long retention period and the data cannot be deleted or overwritten.

LTO8 Ultrium data cartridges store up to 12TB in native or uncompressed capacity at speeds of up to 360MB/sec, and up to 30TB of compressed data at speeds up to 900MB/sec. That is up to 1.38TB per hour for native/uncompressed data or up to 3.24TB per hour for compressed data. An LTO 8 cartridge continues the use of Barium Ferrite (BaFe) particles which improves reliability, longevity and density.
